Nembrala · Rote Island · Indonesia
Eight beachfront bungalows at the edge of Indonesia — where the surf is world-class and the crowds haven't arrived yet.
About Mulia Bungalow
Nestled behind ancient trees and steps from the beach, Mulia Bungalow is a small, family-run property in Nembrala — the heart of Rote's surf and beach scene.
Eight individually named bungalows sit in a lush tropical garden facing the ocean. Stone-carved bathrooms, hardwood doors, private terraces, and real Indonesian hospitality. No pretension. Just a great place to be.
Rote Island is what Bali was 30 years ago. Come while it's still like this.
Surf
Nembrala sits at the epicentre of Rote's legendary surf. T-Land — one of the longest and most consistent left-hand breaks in the world — is a short walk or scooter ride away.
But that's just the headline. The area is packed with named breaks for every level: from the mellow fun of Saki Mamas and Banana to the heavy barrels of Petrol Bombs and Squealers. Boa, Doo, 1 Palm, Oeselis — every tide and swell brings options.
Surf season: May to September for consistent swells. Year-round rideable waves.
Accommodation
Each bungalow is named after one of Rote's surf breaks. All rooms include AC, private bathroom, balcony terrace, and daily breakfast.
Named after Rote's most legendary left-hand break. This bungalow sits closest to the ocean path, framed by frangipani and ancient stone steps.
After the playful local break perfect for all levels. Light-filled with hardwood doors, private terrace, and that classic Rote morning air.
Named for the beloved surf and beach village to the north. A spacious bungalow with a wide veranda, two chairs, and an open garden view.
After the fast, hollow wave that rewards the bold. This cozy bungalow has character — polished wood, open-air stone bathroom, garden access.
Named after a secret local gem of a break. Quiet corner bungalow surrounded by flowering frangipani and tropical shrubs.
Soft, fun, and everyone's favourite. Same energy in bungalow form — open, welcoming, with stone-and-wood detailing throughout.
After the iconic lone palm marker of the break. The most photogenic bungalow, often the first choice of returning guests.
Named for the explosive barrels that light up Rote's south coast. Big energy, equally memorable stay — prime garden position.
Island Life
Rote is small enough to explore in a few days, wild enough to keep you for weeks. Wild horses roam the fields, hidden waterfalls wait in the jungle, and the sunsets here are something else entirely.
